The Zone Diet

The Zone is much more than a diet and weight loss plan. The Zone is a lifestyle. Living life in The Zone has many benefits which includes the retooling of your metabolism. The Zone Diet works by eating meals that consist of 40% low density carbohydrates, 30% lean protein, and 30% monounsaturated/polyunsaturated fats. Eating foods in this combination works with your body on a hormonal level by controlling your glucose and glucagon levels. By maintaining these two hormones in the right zone you will achieve:

  • Permanent Control Over Body Fat

  • Improved Mental Alertness

  • Improved Physical Performance

  • A Longer Life Span

  • A Great Reduction in the risk of getting serious chronic diseases such as, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

Life in the Zone brings about almost instantaneous changes. In the Zone your metabolism is working for your body twenty four hours a day, causing you to have increased energy and decrease body fat at the quickest rate possible. Your blood sugar levels are stabilized every time you eat, so you feel less hungry and more alert throughout the day. After only a week your carbohydrate cravings will be gone for good. It's as simple as eating the right combination of foods at every meal.

The Basic rules of the Zone diet are:

"1. Always eat a Zone meal within one hour of waking.

2. Try to eat at least five times per day: three Zone meals and two Zone snacks

3. Never let more than five hours go by without eating a Zone meal or snack—regardless of whether you are hungry or not. In fact, the best time to eat is when you aren’t hungry because that means you have stabilized your insulin levels. Afternoon and late evening snacks (which are really mini-Zone meals) are important to keep you in the Zone throughout the day.

4. Eat more fruits and vegetables (yes, these are carbohydrates) and ease off the bread, pasta, grains, and other starches. Treat breads, pasta, grains, and other starches like condiments.

5. Drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day. That’s about a half gallon of water.

6. If you make a mistake at a meal, don’t worry about it. There’s no guilt in the Zone. Just make your next meal a Zone meal to get you back where you (and your hormones) belong."1

If you follow these simple rules you will soon be on your way to a higher quality of life. You will have more energy, feel better, and look better.
